Sand Pouring Unity Ceremony
The unity sand ceremony was created as an alternative to the popular tradition of lighting a unity candle. It’s a great substitute with the same meaning. The pouring of the grains of sand symbolizes the joining together of two people into one as they pour from an individual container into a larger vessel. Thus creating a new foundation (and family) together. The blending of colors also makes a lovely keepsake for the couple to cherish from their wedding day.

How Do I Plan a Sand Pouring Ceremony?
- Talk to your wedding officiant – they can narrate your love story during the special moment
- Select the vessel (vase, heirloom, etc.) and the sand you’d like to use for your ceremony
- Sand can be collected from a beach
- Can also use colored sand selected for each family member
Although sand pouring stems from the Catholic and Christian religions, the ritual is now a common option for couples of all religions and denominations.
