A Unity Ceremony is a ritual within a ceremony that represents two souls becoming one.
When I work with couples, we discuss core values as well as intentions they wish to embody, as they step into their exciting chapters together. Building a rock cairn, among other many creative ideas, is a symbolic ritual that helps evoke this intention.
I highly encourage a unity ceremony, along with personal vow writing, if you want a meaningful ceremony. These pieces are rituals that add more of YOU and your unique love story.
In this wedding with Jessica and David, a rock cairn fit perfectly. Not only do they love the outdoors, they work with rocks for a living; Jessica being a geologist and David a geophysicist. They picked a specific type of Rock cairn called and Inuksuk. An Inuksuk is a type of cairn that originated in Canada, where they were from. Each stone represented a different value they hold dearly. And so, they built the foundation of their marriage as we spoke to each value.
This is one example of many ways to add personalized pieces into your rite of passage. Other examples are:
