One thing I continuously get asked by couples wanting a non-traditional ceremony is how can we sprinkle traditional rituals in so that it makes sense for them. It can be important for some couples to honor pieces of their family heritage even if they aren’t actively practicing those customs. Jewish rituals are great ways to add your Jewish upbringing while still having a professional officiant over a Rabbi.

This longstanding tradition has deep symbolism from the past. The stomping of the glass signifies the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, the fragility of life, and the importance to cherish every moment.
The implied prayer is “May your marriage last as long as it would take to repair this glass.”
As the glass is broken, guests cheer in celebration shouting, “Mazel tov!”
